For the 2023–24 season, the BCCI revealed its yearly player retainership for the senior men’s squad. The statement also said, “It is recommended that all athletes prioritize playing domestic cricket when they are not representing their country.”

As for the major announcement, Kapil Dev believes that it would be very beneficial for Indian cricket. “I was going through the last few weeks of cricket in India,” he said in an interview with the PTI. The cricket board’s move towards first-class cricket makes me very delighted.

The former captain is thrilled with the idea, which he believes would further enhance cricket in the nation, and believes that international players should play for their respective FC clubs when they are not representing their country. “The boys ought to play that; it’s beneficial to the nation.” I am glad about anything that is beneficial to the nation,” he said.

Additionally, Kapil believes that the nation’s progress transcends any one person’s name. “A few players may suffer, but accept it. Nobody is greater than the nation. Excellent work,” he said.

The focus was on Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, who, although not playing international cricket, had neither appeared for their respective first-class teams. On the other hand, Mumbai has declared that Shreyas Iyer would be included in their team for the semi-final matchup with Tamil Nadu.

Kishan had taken a leave of absence during their tour in South Africa, citing personal concerns. In the DY Patil T20 competition, which includes some international players like Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya, he made his comeback to cricket.

The Indian squad is preparing for the last Test match in Dharamsala against England. The Indian Premier League (IPL) and the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held by the United States of America and the West Indies, will come next. This is the biggest event of the year.
