Lakshya Sen of India won the men’s singles competition at the Canada Open 2023 by defeating China’s Li Shi Feng, the current All England champion and World No. 10, in straight games.

In a dramatic summit match on Sunday in Calgary, the 21-year-old Indian, who had won his first Super 500 championship at the 2022 India Open, used great speed and power to outperform the current All England champion Feng 21-18 22-20.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-67101″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-sometimes-the-most-difficult-battles-result-in-the-sweetest-victories-lakshya-sen-following-victory-at-canada-open-download-2023-07-10t175143.767.jpg” alt=”” width=”1282″ height=”674″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-sometimes-the-most-difficult-battles-result-in-the-sweetest-victories-lakshya-sen-following-victory-at-canada-open-download-2023-07-10t175143.767.jpg 310w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-sometimes-the-most-difficult-battles-result-in-the-sweetest-victories-lakshya-sen-following-victory-at-canada-open-download-2023-07-10t175143.767-150×79.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1282px) 100vw, 1282px” />

“On occasion, the toughest struggles result in the most satisfying victory. I’m overjoyed to have won the Canada Open after all this waiting! After the victory, Lakshya Sen said on social media, “Grateful beyond words.

Lakshya has won two BWF World Tour 500 championships; his first was the India Open in January 2022.

“It was challenging going into the Olympic qualifying year since things didn’t go my way. Therefore, this victory would greatly increase my confidence,” Sen told PTI after the victory.

The ace shuttler stated, “I had to dig deep in certain matches, the circumstances were different and getting acclimated to it was vital.

Sen, who dropped to world No. 19 after failing to rediscover his form early in the season, will benefit greatly from this victory.

Sen, a former world number six who won bronze at the 2021 World Championships, had extensive recovery time after undergoing nasal surgery to correct a deviated septum following the World Championships last August.

WR-4 was beaten by the Indian, who is presently rated 19 in the world. Thai player Kunlavut Vitidsarn won the round of 32 match, Japanese player Kento Nishimoto won the semifinal match, and Chinese player Li Shi Feng won the championship match.

Sen’s first victory came in this category since he won his first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in August of last year. He is also the nation’s second singles champion this year after HS Prannoy’s triumph at the Malaysia Masters in May.
